Melissa Whitman was born and raised in Minot, North Dakota. She left home to attend Columbia College Hollywood. In 2014, she graduated with honors. As a small child, Julian exhibited a tell-tale sign of being a storyteller: he paraded around his house with a chopstick in hand creating and acting out scenes from video games and movies. His love for storytelling was ignited during one scorching hot summer in his hometown of Phoenix, AZ, when he gathered his childhood friends together to make a movie. There was no stopping his passion for filmmaking after that. Julian holds an MFA in Film Production from the University of Southern California (USC) School of Cinematic Arts and a BA in Media Arts and English/American Literature from the University of Arizona. Demon's in the Dark was made almost by accident. We had just received funding for 'The Evil In Us', a feature film that I had written, but still had not been given the green light to direct. Before I was entrusted to helm the feature, my partners and investors first needed to see if I could direct a short. Specifically they wanted to see if I could shoot 7 or 8 pages a day, which would be necessary to finish the feature on time and budget. So I wrote the script for Demon's In the Dark over the course of about 3 days while sitting in my car guarding a parking lot while working as a Production Assistant for a big TV pilot. I grew up with a Christian family in a small town, Nørre Åby, on the Danish island, Funen. We were a part of the alternative church movement, Apostolic Church. Until I was thirteen years old, I attended church every week, but never really felt Jesus’ presence. When I was fifteen, I told my mother, that I did not believe in God. She was sad that I would not join her in heaven. When I finished high school, I traveled a lot in the States for two years and spent half a year in London. Then I moved to Copenhagen to pursue a career within film, and I have been working with film production ever since. The inspiration for my films has always come from my own experiences.
